The Red Sox will make the playoffs
Boston is far too gifted and the American League has too many suspect squads for me against the Sox hitting the postseason to select. But it will be through the AL Wild Card spot that is second, and the defending champs will not get back to the World Series.
Why, you ask? Because of Chris Sale shoulder? Nathan Eovaldi’s October workload? Some sort of statistical blow for Mookie Betts and/or J.D. Martinez?
Nah. I simply don’t think that the fans could break the baseball gods and the World Series trophy with an errant beer can apart.
Bryce Harper will sign with the Cardinals
Now, my head still says that Harper will end up with the Phillies or the White Sox. However, together with me sinking fast this really is the forecast I made at the start of the Hot Stove season, and, damn it, I’m heading down with the boat.
I will need to veer from an organizational path of half-measures and short-term options and do assert that the Cardinals have the tools to pull it off. Paul Goldschmidt has been a fantastic get, but only for a single year (and he is 31). Harper would take this club to World Series-caliber squad that is clean from National League Central contender that is borderline.
