If plans to change club competitions go ahead player welfare is likely to be in danger, states the body representing leagues.
Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli spoke on Tuesday about the problem at a leaders conference and wants to change the structure of the Champions League.
However, president of European Leagues, Lars-Christer Olsson, is contrary to the move and cited fixture.
It is growing more evident we have to take care of the players, Olsson said.
If they are playing 70 or even 80 matches a year, there is a high probability of them getting injured.
Olssons organisation – European Professional Football Leagues Association referred to as European Leagues – says it is the voice of professional football leagues across Europe on all matters of shared interest.
He needs plans to modify the Champions League arrangement.
It has been indicated the rivalry could be altered from its current set up – eight teams of four to six groups of six. Such a move would increase the number of group-stage suits for each team.
Olsson believes the only means of dealing with additional games is to get clubs to enlarge their squads to 40 players but believes this would dilute the rivalry as a complete as well as in any case, would benefit the richer clubs, something hes vehemently opposed to.
Agnelli was canvassing opinion from Europes clubs for a shift in the present European model.
The Italian is yet to reach any consensus and utilized his speech, at the Leaders Sport Business Summit at Twickenham, to inform the leagues that they had to stop sayingno, no, no to a revision of their current system.
Agnelli argues that if soccer is to continue being interesting to a younger generation he believes will be drawn away by computer games such as Fortnite and League of 33, change has to occur.
However, Olsson said:Its a contradiction to say the clubs are battling the leagues. All the clubs have been in leagues and one of the leagues there is not any issue.
Olsson says that the leagues are against the present idea of incorporating promotion and relegation to European contests, presuming it would turn them toa closed shop.
It is totally non-negotiable, he explained.
If you acquire a single degree, it makes feel you should find the chance to play with at the following level and should you win the Champions League, you need to be able to guard it, but those three teams are the only ones who should be given the chance to play at European club football the next season .
The remainder must be down to current success on the pitch in a national league. Clubs should not have an edge.
Neither do I feel the big leagues – England, Spain, Italy and Germany – ought to have four teams who go into the group stages as it restricts the opportunities for teams from different countries.
It ought to be one and three to the qualifying round. In the event the fourth team is good enough, theyll undergo but somebody else must have a chance of doing it as well.
Agnelli has set a deadline of fall 2022 to come up with a new system, which could subsequently be applied as the foundation for negotiations over the television deals.
He also cited the expansion of the womens game as a reason why an alternative must be found which will generate increased earnings for medium European teams particularly.
The rise of the womens game has attracted a breath of fresh air to the market, he explained.
Trainers are now realising that the womens game is significant and can be an additional source of potential customers and lovers.
However, it is tough to request a club from a moderate or small-sized team to spend #2m – which is what you need in the beginning when you think about logistics, transport, hotels and salaries – from an overall budget of #20m. Its the equal of a third division mens group.
A quagmire of mediocrity or eventhe only catastrophe is an accident crisis – just how bad is it in Manchester United and can be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer protected from the sofa?
