Former Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas can lead Great Britain’s team in the Road World Championships later that season.
Even the 2018 yellow jersey winner will compete in the men’s road race along with the time trial, the latter along with British time trial winner Alex Dowsett.
Thomas will be combined by Ben Swift, winner of the British National Road Race Championships.
“We’ve got this kind of talent pool of elite men’s road riders in this nation that final selection was rather tricky even though the program is indeed tough,” said British Cycling’s elite men’s coach Matt Brammeier.
“Looking at the time trial, we have selected two very seasoned time trial riders this year at G (Geraint) and Alex, both of whom suit the course and consequently we could expect to see good performances from them both.
“G (Geraint) will then stick up to compete in the road race in the Sunday, and will no doubt be a valuable asset to the group in the final laps.
“Ben Swift has stepped up again this year and has return to his best because his injury.
“I understand he can’t wait for racing in front of the home crowd, and I think having that support will really spur on the entire team.”
