Hugo Lloris states Tottenham are still not constructed to win the Champions League, even though their run to the last season.
The two were made by spurs for the first time in their history but they finally fell short in Madrid against Liverpool.
The challenge is to prove that was not simply a one time, but the Tottenham captain thinks it is a demanding request when they’re up against teams using calibre in this competition.
“I believe with a great deal of humility there are a few clubs which have the profile to win Champions League each year – historically and also all the talent they have in the squad,” Lloris explained.
“They place a stamp on this rivalry. That’s not the case for Tottenham.
“However, as we saw this past year, what’s possible when you’ve got the belief, the ability and the discipline. Why not be?
“But clearly we’ve got a distinct profile to this kind of team – Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich. That sort of club.
“It’s not a lack of ambition. It is to win, whoever will be the opponent in front of us when we go on the pitch. We don’t want to look too far forward.”
Spurs’ squad is filled with talent and the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen, Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane are currently reaching the peak of their careers.
Lloris is hoping they could all play their role to assist Spurs get over online and win their first trophy since 2008.
“Now we’ve arrived at an era where we’ve got the expertise to have an effect towards the team,” he added.
“Hopefully we will go in the identical manner.
“Once you arrive in a level, the main issue is to do everything to stay in the same level, particularly the amount we arrived at this past calendar year, as the runner-up of this Champions League.
“It is not a coincidence. We are doing something we’re building something.
“But we cannot drop the degree. We will need to build the consistency to improve, to get much closer to that which we are all looking for – trophies.”
