Scott McTominay believes each European Qualifier is a cup final ahead of Scotland’s fixtures against Belgium and Russia this week.
Steve Clarke’s team sit fourth in Group I points after defeats to Kazakhstan along with Monday’s competitions Belgium, but the Manchester United midfielder insists Scotland can be eligible.
He explained:”You just need to take every game as a cup final, and it’s extremely important for us to keep building on the progress we have shown beneath the new gaffer and I really feel like it has two major games where you can look at it in two unique ways.
“It’s a must-win and it’s undoubtedly a must-not drop too, so that I feel just like you must take responsibility about the pitch first of all.
“We’re not going to settle for something less than individuals going and having a perfect go, but clearly that’s up to the director and the training team with the way they put us up and the different ways that they want to approach the match.”
McTominay states that players have begun to embrace along with his effect is one he is awaiting.
He added:”It is vitally important for all of us to keep building on the progress we’ve shown below the new gaffer.
“All of the players have completely bought into everything that he’s saying, and all of his ways on and off the pitch are different and it is always really favorable to have somebody of that size managing the national group and it is exciting.”
Says he intends to continue enhancing for both club and country, as well as also claiming that outcomes for United so much haven’t been what the group have deserved.
“For myself I have just been focusing on enjoying as much soccer as I possibly can, and studying as far as I can from the coaching staff, both in my parent team and at Scotland too,” McTominay said.
“It’s exciting times for me but it’s about maintaining a level head and wanting to keep progressing in the way that you are going.”
He continued:”I feel like we’ve been unlucky with a few of the results that we’ve had, and obviously I’m now aware I am an international plus they’re the games I’m solely focused on in this moment in time.
“However, at heart level we’ve been unfortunate with a few decisions and a few ways that the outcomes of the matches have gone, but as I state it is important for all of us to escape to a flying start using Scotland too.”
