Scott McTominay considers each European Qualifier is a cup before the fittings against Russia and Belgium this week of Scotland.
Steve Clarke’s staff sit fourth in Group I points after Monday’s opponents Belgium along with defeats to Kazakhstan, but the Manchester United midfielder insists Scotland can nevertheless be eligible.
He said:”You just need to take each game for a cup final, and it is vitally important for all of us to continue building on the progress we’ve shown under the new gaffer and I really feel as though it has two major games where you could look at it in two different manners.
“It’s a must-win and it’s unquestionably a must-not lose too, so that I feel as if you have to take responsibility about the pitch first and foremost.
“We are not going to pay for something less than people having a ideal move, but clearly that’s up to the director and the coaching team with how they put us up along with the various ways they want to approach the game.”
McTominay says that gamers are beginning to embrace and his effect is one he is awaiting.
He added:”It’s vitally important for us to keep building on the progress we have shown beneath the new gaffer.
“All the players have fully bought into everything that he’s saying, and all his ways on and off the pitch are all somewhat distinct and it is definitely quite positive to have someone of the size handling the national group and it is exciting.”
The 22-year-old, who has started all four of United’s Premier League games this season, says he plans to continue improving for both club and country, as well as also maintaining that outcomes for United so far haven’t been what the staff have deserved.
“For myself I have just been focusing on playing as much football as I possibly can, and learning as far as I could from the coaching team, both in my parent team and in Scotland too,” McTominay said.
“It’s exciting times for me but it’s about maintaining a level head and wanting to keep progressing in the way that you are going.”
He continued:”I feel as though we have been unlucky with a few of the results that we’ve had, and obviously I’m now aware I am a global plus they are the games which I’m solely focused on at this moment in time.
“However, at heart level we have been unfortunate with a few choices and a few ways that the results of the games have gone, but as I say it is important for us to escape to a flying start with Scotland as well.”
